ICEOP Field Expedition (June 2021)

Currently in the final stage of its implementation, IceOps is facing a busy schedule for this summer. Today, the Arctic Floating University-2021 has set off on its scheduled voyage.

 The AFU expedition will take part from 10-30 June 2021 with ICEOP participation. 3 scientists from NArFU (L. Drachkova, D. Kovalev and A. Suburov) and 2-3 students will be part of the expedition team. Expedition activities discussed, ice observations, use of SAR information/images, potential some ice samples will be taken, large scale sea ice characterisation/observations (level ice, ridges etc.), cameras & images processing, SAR images (wet summer ice). An expedition report will be made, photos/videos disseminated.

 Out of Arkhangelsk harbour; to the Pechora Sea, Novaja Semlja, Frantz Josef’s Land and back to home port in Arkhangelsk.

The final results will be presented at international venues — Arctic Engineering School (September 2021), Arctic Projects — Today and Tomorrow (October 2021), among others. There is one more deliverable the project is expected to produce — the international academic course.
